Research Engineer Thermal Systems | TNO

As a research engineer, you have a unique position in the Thermal Systems team. Among all academics, it is you who have the practical know-how, which is very valuable for your colleagues. Thanks to you, researchers can count on reliable and well-running equipment during projects involving heat pumps, compact heat storage, advanced drying and drainage technology and its implementation . You are always working on several projects at the same time, such as Solidarity and e-Missi0n.

Your work is very varied, and because your position is new, you can also interpret it yourself. You manage contractors and suppliers, prepare installations, carry out the surveys and collect and process data, possibly together with researchers and project managers. You also provide support for formulating research questions or a research design. You do this in a team of fifteen committed and driving colleagues. You can act as a sparring partner for the researchers and come up with ideas and solutions for the optimal implementation of the research. You switch smoothly between different tasks and projects, and you can collaborate well with researchers on the one hand and installation companies and contractors on the other. Information you collect can be summarized in clear, precise conclusions. Finally, you work in a structured way and you contribute to the further improvement of working and measuring methods.

What else do you bring:

• A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or process technology and knowledge of heating and cooling technology.
• At least two years’ experience in operating complex technical installations and experience in control systems (PLC and HMI) and data communication.
• Good communication skills in Dutch (language of suppliers and contractors) and preferably also English (the language of instruction in the department).
• The motivation to achieve a VCA-VOL. Do you already have these? Then that’s a good thing.
