Snyk supports strong European growth with regional data housing

Amsterdam, June 28, 2022 – Snyk, a leader in developer security, announces new hosting in Frankfurt, Germany, which further helps European companies build secure applications while maintaining data storage in the EU.

Snyk has grown rapidly in recent quarters in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and this new data center is also helping to attract business customers in the region. The company now provides cloud-based developer security to more than 1,800 companies and has an annual customer growth of more than 115%.

The availability of Snyk hosting in the EU comes at a crucial time for cloud technology and the rules around it. Digital transformation is increasingly moving application development to the cloud, where companies, from almost every industry, are creating cloud-based software using cloud-based tools and components. Gartner predicts that by 2025, two-thirds of the company’s application software spending will go to cloud-based technology.

This explosive growth is reflected in the number of times Snyk is used to revise application, cloud and code security: In the first quarter of 2022 alone, users performed 332 million one-time tests, an increase of 400% compared to this period in 2021.

In response to this digital transformation, several governments, regulators and individual companies have adopted new laws, requirements and rules, with many more on the way. Based on the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) in the EU, these usually focus on the different methods by which data is processed, stored and shared. Increasingly, companies are also required to store their data in a specific geographical location.

Snyk’s Chief Technology Officer, Adi Sharabani, says: “Whether it is due to legal or regulatory requirements, contractual agreements or internal corporate policies, data housekeeping has become an important factor for companies when purchasing and implementing new cloud-based software. The opening in Frankfurt will allow Snyk to continue serving EU customers as new rules emerge. “

EMEA customers trust that Snyk secures their applications and ensures that compliance requirements do not block access to the tool. At Skyscanner, a large travel agency serving multiple locations in the EU, it has become an essential part of their security tool. Alex Harris, security engineer at Skyscanner, says: “Snyk is of the most important security tools we use at Skyscanner. Our developers love the integration with their existing tools and multi-stage SDLC, so we can be sure we are protected. We really liked that there is a multi-layered approach. Snyk fits in well with how we approach security here at Skyscanner. ”

Snyk has secured EMEA customers such as AB InBev, Bosch, Deliveroo, Ericsson, Revolut, Skyscanner and Visma since its founding in London and Tel Aviv in 2015. Snyk is currently regionally based in London, Tel Aviv, Stockholm and Zurich. The newly appointed Chief Technology Officer, Adi Sharabani, is based in Tel Aviv, and Samantha Wessels, who took over as VP of EMEA sales in January, is based in the UK. Adi and Sam join more than 600 EMEA employees, about half of Snyk’s total workforce.

EU data housing support is the latest example of Snyk’s continued investment in security and compliance with business quality. Snyk already complies with all data protection laws and regulations that apply to its developer security platform, including GDPR, ISO 27001, ISO 27017 and SOC 2 Type II standards.

The company is fully committed to meeting new data management and security requirements as they emerge and are required by its customers. Following the launch in the EU, Snyk plans to expand their data housing support to other regions around the world.

Samantha Wessels, VP, EMEA Sales, says: “Snyk is proud that we are expanding our investments in Europe. Snyk’s adoption started in the UK, where we were founded. We are now beginning to see a similar trend in Europe. Not only do we want to meet our customers, but with the explosion of developers in Europe and the shift to the left of security, we believe the time has come to invest and support the developer community, security practitioners and our partner ecosystem in Europe. “
