Within the Strategic Foresight Analysis (SFA) team in the research group Networked Organizations, we examine what is happening in the technological field and map this development. For this team, we are looking for a follow-up intern who wants to dive into this topic with us!

What do you want to do?

We see all kinds of (new) technologies being used in the war in Ukraine. We are threatened with the deployment of hypersonic missiles, we see various forms of cyber attacks and people are being affected in all possible ways. But what are facts and what is fiction? What technological innovations are actually taking place? Do we see new ways to perform? And what does that mean for Holland?

You will help map and monitor these technological applications and operational concepts through source research. You then use your analytical brain power to interpret this development and analyze what it means for the Dutch defense.

What we expect from you

We are looking for an enthusiastic university intern specializing in security studies, international relations and / or military strategic studies, who would like to get an internship / internship with us. Students from other studies with a good foundation are also welcome to apply.

You have an affinity with (new) technologies, current affairs in the field of security and military operations. Content knowledge of the current conflict is considered a plus. Other skills we are looking for are the ability to independently do source research and analytical thinking. In addition, good command of the Dutch language is a must.

The intended internship period is 4 to 5 months. The obligation is 20 hours a week. The intended start date is January 16, 2023. Both the deployment and the exact start date will be determined in consultation. The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, September 2, 2022.

What does the process look like?

For this vacant internship, it is necessary for the AIVD to issue a Declaration of No Objection (VGB) after conducting a safety investigation. In any case, you need to take into account an average duration of 8 weeks. Due to Covid-19 and the consequent uncertainty and restrictions, students who do not live in the Netherlands may not be able to start an internship or examination position at TNO at the moment.
